European immigration to America

European immigration to America

To introduce the topic I'm going to talk about the short film realized in 1917 by Chaplin : The Immigrant. "The Immigrant" deals with an European who flee his country to go to New York by boat. When he arrived Charlot is moneyless. This film reflects a reality, according to this film, Europeans left their country leaving over all they possessed, that was a hard choice to take this decision, a bet for them because they started from scratch. They choose to go there rather staying in poverty and suffer from starvation. By going in America, Europeans discovered the American Dream, what they expected, a  country with job opportunities, freedom, they could climb the social ladder because of the job they have.

Since USA is independant that's to say 1774, the country welcome migrants from all part of the world. However in the 19th century there was an exception. Black people were forced to came in USA. Indeed USA needed manual workers in plantation because white people didn't want that kind of work, europeans worked in industries, in mines, quarries...

Nowadays it became harder to join USA and become an american citizen in spite of what the american constitution says, they promise us a lot of things that in reality are unreal, they want to give you the impression that it's a country of prosperity, freedom while migrants are seen in a negative way.
